Note
Son of Nathaniel Cushing and Lucy Turner. Grandson of Lieutenant Colonel Elijah Cushing and Elizabeth Barstow, Captain Thomas Turner and Mary Bryant. Husband of Mehitable Dodge, the daughter of Rev Ezekiel Dodge and Mary Goddard. They were married 4 Feb 1789 in Abington, Plymouth and had seven children: * Ezekiel Dodge Cushing 1790-1828 * Mehetabel Cushing, wife of Nathaniel Cushing Estabrook 1792-1842 * Nathaniel Cushing 1794-1796 * Lucy Cushing, wife of Silas Holman 1796-1873 * Nathaniel Cushing 1798-1798 * George Cushing 1799-1824 * Elijah Cushing 1806-1868 Nathaniel Cushing resided in Pembroke, Massachusetts. Lived in the "Elijah Cushing place on Washington Street, Hanson, Massachusetts, at the head of Liberty Street." Only on Christmas Eve was Nathaniel Cushing of Pembroke, Massachusetts, issued a contract for five large anchors to be delivered to Boston. At least three of these certainly were for the frigate to be built there. Bartsow's Forge, to which we have alluded on p. 19, was erected in 1720, and was occupied by the Barstow family, until the removal of Joshua, to Exeter, N.H., in 1795, when it was purchased by the Salmonds, and was improved by them, and by Nathaniel Cushing, and Charles Josselynn, for about thirty years. - A Historical Sketch of the Town of Hanover, Mass., John S. Barry, pg 139 The house on Broadway near the South Hanover railroad station was probably constructed by Joseph Barstow, about 1720. Mr. Barstow was one of four persons who established the Forge and Finery, where now stands the tack factory of Ezra Phillips & Sons. It is doubtful if Mr. Barstow lived in this house, although it seems to have been owned by a son and grandson. Elijah Cushing, who married Mr. Barstow's daughter in 1775 constructed the house at Cushing's Corner, Hanson, the two houses being similar in architecture and erected about the same time. Mr. Robert Salmond came into possession of this Barstow house as early as 1790 and resided here until his death, in 1829. He was engaged in the manufacture of anchors at the Barstow forge. - History of the Town of Hanover, Massachusetts with family genealogies, Jedediah Dwelley and John F. Simmons, pg 259 Source: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/37338431/nathaniel-cushing
