Warren Delano II, grandfather of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, was born in the part of New Bedford which is now the Town of Fairhaven, MA. He was a prominent China Trader during the 1830s and returned to Fairhaven with a substantial fortune. In 1850, he created Riverside Cemetery in Fairhaven. Besides keeping the family homestead in Fairhaven as a summer residence, he also built a home called Algonac near Newburgh, NY. He is buried in the Delano Family Tomb. Catherine was the daughter of Joseph & Anne Robbins Lyman. On 1 November 1843, she married Warren Delano. They were the parents of 11 children-Susannah Marie (died young), Louise Church, Deborah Perry (Forbes), Anne Lyman (Hitch), Warren III (died young), Warren IV, Sarah Anne (Roosevelt), Phillip, Katherine Robbins (Robbins-Collier), Frederick Adrian, and Laura Franklin. All but one of her children are buried with her in the Delano Family Tomb. Sarah Anne Delano Roosevelt is buried in the St James Episcopal Churchyard in Hyde Park.
